“The Last American CEO”

by Jason Vines and Joe Cappy

Biography

ISBN: 978-1-944245-10-8

ceocoverSex, lies, conflicts of interest, international intrigue and a double-cross of thousands of union employees in the heart of America. Add to that three major companies’ futures on the line and an assassination by anarchist terrorists in Paris of one of the company’s chairman, in front of his screaming daughter, that almost kills a deal to save at least two of the companies. Hollywood? No. This was real.

“The Last American CEO” is the ultimate insider’s view of one of the biggest global business deals in history – Chrysler’s 1987 purchase of American Motors (AMC) from French automaker Renault. Relevant today? The jewel of the acquisition was Chrysler acquiring the Jeep brand, which almost single-handily saved Chrysler from near-bankruptcy in the early 1990s and certainly allowed Chrysler to survive a real bankruptcy in 2009. Joe Cappy was the last CEO of AMC and Jason Vines became his PR guy and later the PR chief for Nissan, then Ford and later Chrysler, all during times of turmoil.

Fiction

ISBN: 978-1-944781-18-7

NativeMoments_ETwenty-year-old Sanch Murray comes from a line of military men. His grandfather fought in WWII, his father in Vietnam and his older brother in the first Gulf War. Growing up, Sanch was expected to do the same. When his brother returns home after an injury suffered during a terrorist attack on his ship in the Yemen Sea, Sanch decides to do something different with his life. He just doesn’t know what. After the death of his brother from a heroin overdose, Sanch leaves for a surf trip to Costa Rica as a way to cope but also as a way to prolong making decisions about his adult life and sets out on a quixotic search for an alternative to the American Dream.

Set in 1999 Costa Rica, Sanch Murray and his friend Jake Higdon wander the dirt roads of Tamarindo and surrounding areas chasing waves as a way to live out the romantic fantasy lifestyle of traveling surfers. Jake Higdon, six years Sanch’s senior, takes on the role of the wise leader and Sanch as his young apprentice. Sanch’s adventure leads to encounters with people who share world views he had never considered and could potentially shape his own changing perceptions about life. His existential adjustment gradually manifests through sometimes humorous episodes such as trying his hand as a matador at a road side rodeo or in his not so humorous battle with dysentery. Along his journey, Sanch befriends a shamanistic traveler named Rob, young revolutionaries from Venezuela, numerous expatriates from around the world trying to escape whatever it is that keeps chasing them and making them wanderers and a beautiful local girl named Andrea, who Sanch suspects is a prostitute but can’t help falling for.

“Journey to the Black City”

by Keith R Mueller

Fiction, Science Fiction

ISBN: 978-1-943847-58-7

Untitled_3On an Earth that is very much like our own, the civilizations of ancient man have been crushed; the giant glaciers that cover the northern part of the globe continue even now moving ever south; grinding the remains of the sky-touching cities of men beneath them. This ice age created warfare between two mighty nations; and in the midst of this mechanized slaughter, a virulent influenza plague ultimately killed most of the human population of the Earth within just one year. Now, almost two thousand years later, some of the survivors of that plague have again gathered together in a few vast city-states. In the wild lands between these megalopolises, the individuals who’d chosen not to return to the sprawl of the city-states, roam as the Free Tribes in the company of sabretooth cats, mammoths and dire wolves.

In this world there is only a tentative peace; there are those in the Black City of the West for whom only one thing matters; the power to dominate and subjugate; the power to kidnap and enslave children & women into a sexual bondage purporting to save their souls, but in reality to supply wealth to a priesthood whose hearts are as black as the zeppelins they fly.

Into this steam-power world, two young people must journey. It will be a journey from innocence that will carry them from their tribe into the black heart of the basalt city. It will be a journey that will change them forever; and bring them closer together than they’d thought possible.

BuildingFaith_7Faith is something you are innately born with or it comes after you’ve been served a hearty dose of “real” life. The latter road is a much tougher journey, and it just so happens to be celebrity carpenter Brandon Russell’s walk towards faith. In his first book, Brandon shares his own experiences while imparting the tools and lessons of wisdom he has learned along the way to create a life built on the solidest of foundations—a foundation of faith in God. Growing up in the charming South, Brandon didn’t realize what life had in store for him. A chance meeting changed Brandon’s course from would-be businessman to international male model turned television star. His father, a true Renaissance man and artist, who could build anything, taught Brandon the value of hard work. Yet, it wasn’t until Brandon lost his father to cancer did he realize his father’s actual tools would give him his true calling in life. While finishing his parent’s basement, Brandon began to understand God’s plan for him. After surrendering to the notion that God’s will was bigger than his own, Brandon came to understand his purpose on earth is to reach, inspire, encourage, and uplift others. That calling has been put into action by reaching people in the one place their hearts are most open: their homes. Brandon’s motto is when building any structure you must start with a good foundation.
